Firsts are Cup
Giant Killers
The
Firsts produced the shock of the round in the Manchester Amateur Cup with a
memorable performance.
Despite
struggling to keep away for the relegation zone in division one, they were
superb in toppling Premier division giants Old Trafford.
Burnage
set off at a hot pace and were soon 2-0 to the good with strikes from Steve
Garvey and Andy Speed and they also missed a spot kick as Mike Eastham’s effort
was saved.
OT
predictably stepped up the pace after the break and soon reduced the arrears
but they were made to regret a penalty which hit the post.
A
rare break from Metro saw Andy Speed add his second and great defending from
Dave Lennon and Tom Scott kept them at bay for a great win.
The
Thirds lost out 3-1 at Aldermere with Lawrence McHugh scoring their consolation
and the fourths went down by the odd goal in five at Moston Brook.
They
visited Moston Brook at the Manchester Academy , on the Artificial 3G surface,
and took an hour and two goals down, before the realised that it was just
another football pitch.
Two
early errors by their more senior players, Malcolm Maginn and Danny Rushton,
gifted the home side a two goal start.
But,
when Theo Pascoe maintained his recent fine form in front of goal on the hour
mark, Brook became more shaky and edgy.
It took a
well taken third goal after 70 minutes to ease the home sides nerves. That was until a lively, Jacob Iles, produced
a fine finish within moments of coming on, but they could not get the
equaliser.
Both the Second
and Fifth Team fixtures fell victim of the conditions, and were postponed.
Unfortunately,
we have been informed that we will not be able to train at Burnage High School
until after Christmas. We are attempting
to make alternative arrangements and will keep you updated.
